On Nov 19th I hit my head at work and had a concussion. There was a fixture in a storage room that shouldn't have had a fixutre, it was shoved in so the only 2 arms left on it where at my head height and the door just opened past them. I walked into one of them and hit directly on my right temple. It's been a long saga I won't relate here just because I'm tired of it. But getting hurt the weekend before Thanksgiving ,when the store is without an HR manager is just.. not fun. I ended up going back and forth about work, got told to stay home a week, got cleared, and then had to go back and got uncleared until I see a nuerologist.

The first time I heard from Worker's Comp was on the Tuesday after thanksgiving when they returned my call. It's been like that the whole way. I just got confirmation yesterday that my new work status of out of work has been approved and they just cut me a check for the days I've missed due to this. In the state I'm in if you are out for 14+ days due to workers comp issue then you get the first 7 days that workers comp normally doesn't pay.

I did work for some of that because I kept getting notes from the ER that said go back to work in 2 or 3 days and I didn't actually see a doctor that wasn't in the ER until the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

I am getting better but I'm still having issues of brain fog, senstivity to light. I get tired really easily and there is something going on with my right eye, although that has improved. Either that or I'm getting used to it. Workers comp is tryign to find me a neurologist that does workers comp so..who knows when that will happen.

comments

AO3 put a limit on tags. and I was reading the comments (and commenting) and found some neat things to read from that.

My "use people's bookmarks to find fic" has been a pretty good strategy.

I updated the tags on my stories just because I figured and changed the rating on some and then checked the stats since I don't pay attetion.

The story with the most hits is Biogenesis (Smallville) with 365 (I mean these predate AO3 and are short works that are more character studies so not expecting anything great).

The story with the most kudos at 11 is Variations of a Kiss (Smallville), it's been bookmarked twice and it got kudos yesterday.

I kind of feel bad that they have so little kudos. But the summaries are basic, I didn't use too many tags and they are older and there is only 5 of my stories on A03. I'm pretty sure I lost a few others. I never wrote much.

It's really cool to get a kudo in email because it's like -oh! someone found it! and they liked it!

I haven't written anything in a long time and there's just no inspiration or stories I want to tell so I just don't.

comments

I got written up at work for attendance. I called out 2x , left early (wasn't feeling well at all) and was late becuase I mixed up my schedule. That's 3.5 points, you can only have 3 and you get written up. If I had someone to cover me I would have been fine but I called out same day and we are so understaffed there is no one to just cover a shift. I could have traded but again it was same day and that's hard to figure out.

Pre pandemic there was more forgiveness for this kind of thing but now with the staff shortage there isn't. Last Sunday managers were scrambling around to try and get people to take a short lunch or stay late because there were enough call outs it was going to put us well below hours..which means corporate cuts hours the next month thinking we don't need them.

So it sucks this happened. My manager made it clear she doesn't think it's a behavioral problem or anything , stuff just happened. They fall off after 6 months but they are close enough together it's going to be Jan before most falls off.

We have 1/3 of the staff we did pre pandemic. And we are actually doing better in sales most days (I think fulfilling online orders is a huge part of that) and with some fitting rooms open it's harder to staff because we need at least 2 people (ideally 3) at those registers and we don't have that many employees. Although we went back to only having 2 fitting rooms open because of Delta variant surge.

I'm getting worried about Christmas and if we will have enough staff to handle everything.

Cat #3 goes to the vet today, He has something going on with the side of his mouth, it was an issue under his chin. It looks like a scrape but...but it's not and his fur is worn off a bit. I don't know, he went last month (month before?) for the otherisde of his mouth and they were like "it's just a cut" but it's got to be more than that.

comments

Sunday at work a used condom was found in the men's dressing room.

It's not the first time a used condom has been found in the store. People have been caught having sex in the fitting rooms before and, I didn't know this, but a couple holiday seasons ago a couple was caught ON THE SALESFLOOR (in a corner mind but still on the salesfloor) with the chick giving her guy a blow job.

It's gross. It's gross seeing it, it's gross dealing with the aftermath.

I've read a few fanfics where there is public sex like in a bathroom or a fitting room or the library stacks or something and my reaction is always NOOOOO!!!!!! No please no. At the least have them do it in a car in the parking lot. Or a parking garage. It's more private. (Fun Fact: One of JEB Bush's sons got caught having sex with his then girlfriend in a car in the parking lot of the "other" mall in Tallahassee. Which I guess is better than JEB's other son who was stalking/harassing his ex).

We also had a bunch of call outs on Sunday so they were people who got off before we closed if they could work later and those who worked until close if we could take a half hour lunch instead of an hour. It wasn't mandatory and I understood why, if we are under too many hours then next month our hours will be cut. You would have thought they were doing this for some arbitrary reason the way some people complained.

comments

I've been reading a lot of MCU fic but I've read a few stories where Clint was based on the Hawkeye comics and I kinda like that characterization better than MCU Clint. So now I Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon Vol 1 from the library. I need to remember the library is a decent way to get my comics fix. Not buying them. That way just leads to me spending all my money on crossovers and back issues.

I still haven't watched most of Age of Ultron. I did rewatch Avengers recently and kinda felt like...ugh Joss Whedon.

I've also been watching Gotham, very slowly, with my boyfriend bc he only wants to watch like once a week. But we finally made it end of Season 3 I think. I dunno. I'm torn between-- wtf? Why? in a bad way and WTF?!?!?! WHHYyyyyyy!!?!?!? in like a totally good way. and occasionlly..why why am I still watching?

comments

Schools started here today. Which hopefully means the end of the kids department getting completely destroyed. Saturday I was trying to do recovery in one area and had to give up and move to another section of kids because too many people were still shopping and as soon as I got something looking nice it got messed up again, like you couldn't tell I had done anything.

Yesterday it seemed to be Obvious question day. I had a customer who was holding some Small Girls clothes and asks me what size a small is, I wasn't sure if she had the little girls of the older girls and she tells me she's got the 7-16 size girls. I told her a small would be 7/8, and she asks me "so a 7 is the smallest size".

I had to try very hard not to be sarcastic when I said "yes, 7 is the smallest size in the 7-16 sizes".

And then later someone asked me about open fitting rooms so I directed them to the one in Juniors, referred to it as juniors and she says "oh you have a juniors department? where is it?" So I give her the directions again, but kind of downplay the fitting room part. I was pointing because we were over half way from it- all she had to do was walk to the end of the building and it was the corner the walk way deadended in, she'll see the clearance and where the fitting rooms are and that's where it starts (at least on that side). She then asks where I said the fitting rooms were.

Which is a little less frustrating than when someone asks if something is availble in a certain color and I say no it's only available in black (for example) and then they keep asking about different colors. Nope, not red, not white, not beige, only black. That's it.

My team lead left, well he got promoted.. our former manager (who is now a regional manager) recruited him to be a team manager at a store where he is based and our store tried to offer him more money and a promotion but it would have been more sales focused and he didn't want that. Plus moving gave him a fresh start where people would only know him as a manager.

The team lead that was supposed to switch into his place gave his notice. So now we are down an operations lead and a fufillment lead. Which is not where we want to be at this point in Q3. I don't know what they are going to do. I'm hoping they can get someone from another store to transfer in at one of the positions because we don't need 2 brand new people coming in.

Several other people have left. One person left because she didn't like how much she was getting paid (she actually told me at one point and I don't blame her for that) and she felt like she was constantly singled out by managers and getting in trouble. That was more her fault, when she first started she would wander from where she was supposed to and they were constantly having to page her to get her back to her area. Sometimes she was doing go backs but she would chat or whatever. And she would shop on the clock AND hoard stuff for herself. She got transferred to a different department and the wandering kind of stopped but I know she was still holding stuff to buy and getting talked to about that. So she developed a rep and then didn't do anything to correct it.

Racist Co Worker is quitting! I think next week is her last day. I overheard someone saying she had changed her mind a few times but I think she has a definite end date and I don't think they'll let her change it. I'm sure I have other co workers who are racist but she is the only one who lets that come out at work.

comments

I've been taking Cymbalta for almost 2 weeks now. I was depressed and have been for longer than I realized. Once I was at the stage where I was staying in bed almost all day and had no energy to do anything (except for scroll through tumblr or buzzfeed articles) I realized I wasn't that far from calling out at work.

When I have to refill my ADHD med I'm going to increase the dose and see if that helps as well.

I've been feeling better but my stamina on days off is just.. nil. Not physical, just mental. Today I've gotten up and done some stuff and now I'm ready to go curl up in bed for a nap because I'm just tired. Not physically (well I am sleepy) but just .. whatever.

Next weekend I have 4 days off (at least). I asked for Sat and Sunday off and just let my unpaid days fall how they may. And I was scheduled off Thurs, Fri. Later this week I'll know about the following week. Even if I don't get mon or tuesday off I'll still have 2 unpaid days off.

My parents have had their first vaccination shots.
So I've started watching The Expanse as well as Shameless.

I 've also been back on Tumblr so it's pretty much Shameless, Amos Burton, Supernatural , Witcher, and soem shows I don't follow but people I follow do so I see those.

Anyway it's got me in the mood for vids and I am trying to figure out where to start. There is stuff on youtube but it's... there's a lot of , basically scenes cut to go over songs but they have the dialouge all in tact. I do not like this. It's hard for me to process both the lyrics and the dialouge- especially when they are going on at the same time. But also I prefer vids that rely on the viewers knowledge of the source material adn editing to tell stories. I realize that something like Shameless might end up being more talkign heads at times but there is plenty of action in The Expanse!

So now I need to deep dive into Dreamwidth to find some vids.

comments

I have, apparently, skimmed through all of Shameless. I've seen it mentioned, knew it was around, never really watched it. Watched some of the original UK show but not a lot. I started watching it and then just skimmed around mostly watching the Ian/Mickey stuff, which means I missed a lot of the show.

How the hell does Frank Gallagher get all the women?
My home life is so toxic right now. It doesn't feel like it is all the time but if I'm at home on my day off everything turns into an argument with someone.

And M's mom has decided to quit smoking cold turkery-- she was smoking a pack or 2 a day. So that's made things worse. It's usually M and his Mom get into fightrs but it's not too bad and then I come home and we haven't seen each other and so it's just low level saying the wrong things.

The problem for both of us is that we will get Ideas about Doing Something but not communicate the Idea to the other person and then it leads to issues. Also a lot of hangry goes on.

comments

I'm tired. Why could I possibly be tired? I went from walking a decent amount to walking an insane amount at work---I'm doing about 30,000 + steps a day since moving to Buy online Pick up In Store (BOPIS) Picking person. I'm in the group text thing now as well. It feels all official

Also there's been more stress as people are trying to figure out things and we are realizing that we don't have staffing coverage. Today and tomorrow almost all the people working in BOPIS are off. Because most of us weren't scheduled for BOPIS when the schedule was made. I did notice the schedule was taken down so adjustments are being made. And there is the stress of trying to find things in the ever dwindling number of merchandise for some things. Like some areas look really picked over and some are super full and I can't even figure out the logic on most of it. And we have tons of new brands we are carrying since a lot of the ones we were carrying wanted us to order the same amount this year as last. (this has been happening since spring/summer).

AND we are now getting spring/summer items in but also winter items in. I don't get it but I guess we are being sent what we have.

I have way more customer interaction than I did picking fulfillment, not sure why. But it's getting tiring having to deal with customers who want to pay me for items instead of finding a checckout or wait in line. Or have them say it's so "sad" to see our store failing. It's not failing! Most of the items are going out the door we just don't have as much as last year so we won't have as much clearance.

The big focus is on BOPIS. And yesterday when I got in I got a call and was asked to pull a ship to home list, which I thought was odd becaue there wasn't that many items in the queue compared to the number of people we had. But I worked on my list and I could see there were questions about aging orders for BOPIS so I was tryign to get through everything as fast as I could.

Then the person who asked me to pull for ship to home found me and was like "you're going to hate me" and said when I finished I needed to switch over to BOPIS "Nick (the store manager) and I had a talk about it". I did not hate her, I was glad.

THEN Nick sends out this long text about how BOPIS is our #1 priority and most of our resources are to focus on that.

sooo.. that's how that went.

comments

Opened TODAY , most likely at noon CST.

If you can't get in that's understandable as only like 36 people can be tehre at once and 100s are trying to get in.

Some events run for along time, if there's an event runing for a full month it's ok if youcan't get in RIGHT NOW , there is time.
a brief Second Life rant

I get so tired of people who just act so helpless all the time and want you to spoonfeed them everything. They are in a store group chat and they obviously shop at the store and yet "can you send me a tp?" (TP is teleport, they are asking someone to send them a link to the store or a landmark to get there, instead of looking for a landmark in their inventory, looking through their teleport history or using search to find the store, or looking through group notices OR looking at the gruop profile, clicking on the group owner's profiel and finding the link in their profile). Or the person's account is years old, they talk about how they are a shopaholic in their profile or they do things like photography or like to decorate or sometimes even build and then act like they dont' knw how to do anything AT ALL .

I get there are things like bakes on mesh that can seem a little tricky but then people act like they don't know how to use an applier. "oooh I've never changed my skin..." but surely that person has used a HUD of some kind to change the pattern of their clothes or an AO or something.

I've even had people claim they don't know how to use search.

Or "Can someone send me the latest <insert notecard="notecard" that="that" is="is" in="in" the="the" notices="notices">" No it's in the fucking notices, get it like everyone else did and go back and look in the notices.

Although I had a friend who said she couldn't seen notices because apparently there is a Firestorm skin that doesn't show group notices? or at least attachments or something. And once I spent a half hour trying to help someone use an applier and got more and more frustrated until I realized that this person had somehow never learned how to open a box (!??!) despite claiming to be in SL almost daily for months and had been shopping various places. And hitting up all the freebie places but apparently one of the basic steps to living in SL alluded them and it still took me way to long to explain how to rez a box, open it, take into inventory, find the folder, and then wear the items , use the HUD.

I now try to spend my time just helping people figure out Bakes on Mesh because I think it's easy and people at least have figured out how to work a mesh body to some degree in order to get to the point of trying to do Bakes on Mesh. I've found most people and notecards make it seem way more complicated than it is.</insert>

comments

I found the Die Hard story I was looking for. I wasn't accidentally combining 2 stories I was thinking that the one story was really 2. So..now I just need to find the other story my brain has decided I need to read.

I saw The Old Guard and I really liked it, loved almost all the fight scenes. Had some issues with the way they were shot--- a couple times it was too close up and I wanted to be able to see more.

I feel terrible for saying this but I really wasn't impressed with Joe's love speech. I mean I liked the words , the words were fine, the delivery was... too rehearsed in a way. You know how in Ocean's Eleven Danny makes his pitch to Rusty and then asks if it was rushed? Joe's speech felt rushed. It felt rushed and like he was reciting Shakespeare or something... and starts hurrying instead of feeling more organic.

Anyway I went looking for vids for The Old Guard, it's a movie there's not a ton of material and I was just poking around on youtube and OH GOD they ALL use dialog from the movie over the music. I hate that in vids. Make your vid strong enough I don't need the dialog to understand what you are trying to convey. That bugs me and the talkign head clips over lyrics where if you know the source it makes sense to use that scene but there's nothing going on in the scene to actually convey what the lyrics are saying. I've watched vids where I have no or very little knowledge of the source material. I do realize there isn't a lot of Nicky/Joe footage to use and also that my No Talking over The Song is my personal preference I like vids where the song and the video do enough of the talking.

comments

Apparently I missed one of the busiest days we had yesterday so yay that.

Didn't get much of a break. Would rather been home reading. I really need to read The Last Wish instead of reading fanfic but I keep reading stuff and seeing the different variations of the characters, but I really need to read more of the book.

I have one more episode of the show and I'm putting it off until tomorrow. I wish the series was longer. Not 22 episodes or whatever but maybe 12 would have been nice, they could have developed some of the relationships more or showed more of what a witcher is. Although with keeping with just the story lines and "action" it's kind of how I prefer my video games.. (I skip the cinematics and get bored by the storyline, I Just want window dressing for fighting stuff....which I then do really really badly)

comments

So I'm up to episode 6. I realize there aren't many left. It's holding my attention more than most shows. Lately I've struggled to get through a whole hour of tv in one sitting. I still play Merge Dragons too much when I'm watching the Witcher but I pay more attention to what is going on. It's a very beautiful show to watch and there are usually little things to watch for. Like when the doppleganger is at the forest and you can see the outside and the snow.

I got The Last Wish from the library and read through the first chapters.. stories.. I guess in it. The first 2. Anyway they are quite different from who it is in the show but I'm still trying to figure it all out. I saw a youtube video about how the show is a terrible, terrible adaption of the book and I haven't watched all of that because I hadn't gotten to some of what he was talking about on the show or in the book to compare. But I have issues with what I did see. First the guy talks about how things are left out in adaptions and it's often necessary but certain things aren't and every word in a well written story is needed and The Witcher is well written so that everything should have ended up in the show. I admit there is some stuff I don't know because I'm not familiar but it's not keeping me from enjoying it or getting the gist of it. The time shift thing, once I figured it out and went back and watched the first episode there are indications. Like there is the scene in Cintra where Calanthe and Eist are talking about the invasion and Calanthe is trying to spare Ciri "she's a child" and Ciri pops up with you won you first battle when you were my age. Then we flip to the forest and Geralt and Renfri and she's talking about what Stergabor did to her and how Queen Calanthe just won her first battle.

Now I didn't catch that the first time I watched but the second time (after I figured out about the time jump) I caught it.

Anyway, this was written with the idea that you know the source material and I don't have a problem with that. It does mean some things are left out and the characterizations aren't going to be true to the books or games as much (I assume) but I've also seen things that have way too much exposition or spend too much time spoon feeding information so everyone is caught up and I would rather have to think and pay attention than have to sit through exposition to explain something that's been clear but we still have to wait until every little bit is spelled out and there's no mystery.

comments

I've moved into Suits, where I am familiar iwth the first few seasons and after that it's a blank but it turns out it's not something I'm super fannish about. I mean I like some of the stories but a lot of them I just keep thinking "yeah , I don't know if they would act like that" (I mean I have no idea really I just have.. random opnions).

Anyway I did read Pizza Verse. An AU, where Mike is a pizza delivery guy and meets Harvey that way and there's no "fake lawyer" thing going on. Mike delivers pizza to Harvey, they trade quotes and kind of flirt and then it goes from there. The other 2 stories in the series are from Harvey's POV and then Donna's.

I also don't read a ton of Miss Fisher fanfic (but I should read more) however I do likeUndercover Revelations. Phryne and Jack are undercover in a private club and Jack , learns some things about himself...

comments

One more week until vacation! Actually a little less because I have Saturday off so I'll have 8 days in a row. I'm working 7 days right now (well in the middle of it) will have Thurs off, work Friday and then off

And Friday will be a shorter day since all our days are shorter because our hours got trimmed again. A big problem is people ARE NOT taking their PTO (we will use all accrued PTO on Oct 31) and they are saving it I guess. Or waiting u ntil Oct. Except not everyone is getting off in Oct there's no way to do that.

Our company is pretty generous with PTO and Personal Days and then there are people who have been working here for 15 or more years so there are some people who have carried over PTO as an exception (they don't carry over any more) AND they end up with like 6 weeks a year AND they really haven't taken any.

I digress, so people aren't taking PTO so we aren't getting hours to compensate for their lost hours and the hours we get is more than we typically get scheduled. The store gets 40 hours for each person taking PTO but has been scheduling us 35. Except now we are down to 29.5

We were at 30 and they were scheduling hour lunch breaks even when we were working 6 hour shifts. EXCEPT people were only taking a half hour when we have been repeatedly told we have to take our full hour. So now it doesn't just look like we need more hours to schedule but we've been going OVER our scheduled hours. Plus some people weren't even taking their lunch break at all . And even though we are all adults and should be able to go on our breaks on time a bunch of people can't for whatever reason.

So new solution - we are getting shorter shifts and no breaks. Because what I really want to do is work from 9:45 to 3:45 or 1:15 to 7:15 without a break. and people will bitch because that's what they do. I guess they could try scheduling half hour breaks but considering all the problems we are having now it's too much of a hassle.

There are some people who clock in and out on time but then they don't actually get to the salesfloor in a timely manner. There is one associate (and I admit we don't get along) but she consistently shows up 15 mins or more late to the sales floor many days and then our lunches have kind of crossed where I've seen her go to (I assume) to her break late and then I go at the top of the hour, get done with my break and then she's still on hers and meandering back to the sales floor about 10 or 15 mins after I've come back. But I think she will clock herself back in and then just .. not go back immediately.

It's sales tax holiday this weekend so no sales tax on school supplies and clothes and we are busy but not as busy as we would normally be. Which is good because we are running low on key things because we are getting product in more regularly but we aren't getting as much in each time and some brands haven't sent us anything new since before we shut down (or during the shutdown). I dont' think our private label brands are being produced , at least it doesn't seem like it. Or maybe brands are focusing on key demographics, I know we have a lot of Adidas for kids but we haven't gotten any mens stuff in since.. before March. But we have tons of Champion.

Our kitchen section is getting bare. And we aren't having a lot of mark downs right now, partly because our prices are so low but also because I think we don't have anything to replace it with.

comments
