I'm loving Firefly. Of course I'm still stuck in the "It's a Western! In Space!" happiness mode. I know a lot of people are getting tired of seeing Western stuff in space but I'm still giddy that Joss is combining to of my favorite genres. It's like "you got chocolate in my peanut butter...you got peanut butter in my chocolate" Either way it's a good thing.
The only character I'm not so keen on is Dr. Simon. I'm warming up to Inara. However the actually crew of Serenity makes me happy happy happy. Zoe and Wash are so great together. A happy couple in a Joss show---he better not do anything to them!
So now to the . Now, I know there was eye rolling over the start of this episode. It's soo Westerny and all of that. But I liked it, I pretty much knew what was going to happen in the beginning but that was okay because Joss was playing around with a standard Western plot line, and it's not like he hasn't done similiar things on Buffy & Angel. Durnk!Jayne is funny and kinda cute. I was confused by Saffron at first, no female I've seen on Joss was ever that...stereotypically dumb. Of course I should have known it wouldn't have lasted. And Mal, so clueless that Inara has a thing for him. I know there was a big plot hole about how Saffron ended up on the planet and what not. But I'm willing to over look that, I mean for years I overlooked 6 shooters firing more than 6 shots without reloading. I can fanwank Saffron. My theory is that the planet was in on it.
Some part of me thinks I should be offended by Jayne, but I'm not, he's too....big and dumb for me to get upset by anything he says.
Also I thought Mal knocking out Saffron was a great thing, wonderful touch. That's what you do with the bad guy...get an advantage over them and then whack them over the head and haul them to wherever they need to be. It happens in Westerns all the time and Joss used that even though Saffron is a woman. Go Mal! I think Saffron might about been lying about the maiden house thing, she lied about everything else.
Anyway. I'm really enjoying Firefly. I can't wait to see the Jaynecentric episode in two weeks. Although I know in my heart of hearts Firefly will be cancelled, I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.
