Another week, another episode of Firefly. I only got to watch Out of Gas yesterday. I love Firefly more and more every week. I love them all, except maybe Inara, and I'm trying to understand her, and I think this week helped a bit. I've got more spoilery thoughts about Mal was rude to Kaylee, but he was fine with Kaylee liking the dress until someone mentioned Inara and what she does. That's when Mal got rude and snappy, and he realized what he'd done right away. Jayne, however, was completely clueless "Is she mad?"

Mal likes Inara, but he hates what she does. Companions are highly respected, or at least it seems that way. The only person at the ball that treated Inara like she was cheap was Wing. And after the duel Inara made it clear that Wing was never going to be able to hire a Companion again. But I'm thinking that Companions are an Alliance thing, Inara backed the Alliance, she told Mal that before she rented the shuttle.

Mal doesn't like Companions, whether it's strictly because he considers it like slavery, or if it's also because of the Alliance connection he doesn't like it. But he likes and respects Inara, which has to be conflicting for him.

Now that I've seen more of Mal as well I've revised my opinon of who he is. Initially in Train Job I was a little...unsure about what Mal was about. He'd smuggle and steal but not medicine for the sick? Yeah, okay.

But now that I've seen Mal I'm not surprised. I think if the Indenpendents had won Mal would be a normal captain hauling cargo but not smuggling and stealing. But he's working against the Alliance, he wants to be free, and this is the way he can do that. Mal is fair but pragmatic. If kick some guy in the exhaust vent is what needs to be done, then he'll do it.

But if a ship sends out a distress call, and is actually distressed, he would never shot the captain and try to steal the ship. Evil Captain last week said "You'd do the same" and, no Mal would not have. Jayne might have, but not Mal.

Zoe and Wash, I love them---separately and together and their scene in bed was just great. Fun, loving, married. Also the sinky dress exchange.

I'm also liking River more and more. The way she played the Cockney dude, I'm wondering if that is part of her precog abilities because she seemed to just get into his head and know what he wanted/needed to hear. I have faith that her craziness will be explained better.

But I'm tired now so that's all I can coherently say.
