Hockey

I've always been a casual viewer of hockey. Briefly stopping on a game during my surf through the channels. This year, probably due to seeing hockey talk on #discourse I've really started watching it.

Sure, I don't know most of the rules, or what the positions are but at least the colliding into each other (which I like) is making more sense. Plus the state sports channel shows Tampa Bay Lightning---almost all of the games so now I can at least follow a team and players. Even if I'm not sure that's a team I want to root for. But I don't have much of a choice.

Tomorrow is a stop to the library to see if there's anythign like "hockey for dummies" that I can check out. I did a quick Google search to find out more about "icing" but that only got me more confused.

Excellent! Another convert to men on skates. :-) There is indeed a "Hockey for Dummies," as well as "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hockey." Icing is confusing and I still don't totally understand why they call it in some instances and not in others.

I was on the edge of converting for a long time. I think all the discourse hockey fans deserve a toaster for pushing me to being a fan.

I'll look for the Idiot's Gude to hockey.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I wasn't even trying to convert you. :-) I got into hockey because all my fannish friends were into it and I decided to watch some of the playoffs a couple years ago just so I'd know what the heck they were talking about. Next thing you know I'm a hockey fan.

Icing - when the puck goes from the goal side of one blue line to the goal side of the other blue line without going into the actual goal or being touched by a stick in between the two blue lines.

Welcome to hockey-dom!!

Thanks for the info. It sounds kind of like intentional grounding in football.
