Batgirl and Astonishing X Men

I only had those pulls this week. It felt weird. Of course I ended up buying a back issue. And the guy who works there rec'd Superman but I resisted because...well it was part 4 of 4 so I didn't want to buy the other back issues.



So Astonishing X Men first


I loved kitty and Emma's cat fight re: Ethics. I love the dialouge, but with Joss writing that's a given. I'm not sure what's going on with Nick Fury and the X Men, I probably should track down some back story for this comic. I know we're going to find out who the woman is but I'm wondering if she's connected to the alien...what's his name.

Part of me thinks I should get worked up because Jean is being used...or her body...but Jean never stays dead or is really dead and this doesn't seem much diffrent than what I've read in the past. But if she does come back...maybe Scott will be more interesting if he has both Emma and Jean to deal with.

Was this the first time this guy was mentioned because it just seemed kind of...random... but hey! It's action that pushes forth some character development so I'm happy.

I'm not caught up on Cassandra's back story but I'm working on it.

When I first found out that Cassandra couldn't read I was wondering when they were going to address it and why that fact wasn't an issue before. I thought she might have known the alphabet, but to not know any of it... I'm not sure how she's learned to use a computer, I guess she didn't need to use the keyboard for anything and only watched video or listened to audio.


Babs is so much a book person, words, books, I'm sure she read the backs of cereal boxes and shampoo bottles when there was nothing else to read.

You know the more I think about it the plot had problems. Like...the deactivation word was kind of obvious and lame and if Cass was holding the book how did she not get blown away. But I really don't care.


When Babs was yelling at Cass for not being able to read she says "I've tried..really I've tried.. but I just can't." I'm wondering now if she's had trouble learning to read because of the whole learning to read actions thing. I wondder if Batman knows why Cassandra can't read. Before this issue I was kind of thinking...well Babs can teach her to read, but I realize now that would probably be a mistake all around.

I've been watchign stargate while I type this..kind of...anyway that's all.

I think she can learn to read, though, since she can learn to speak. I think Lady Shiva cured her of that problem. I think.

Trying to learn to read on your own? Can't be easy. They must have known -- they just didn't think. I reckon Batman didn't care, and it just never really dawned on Babs, with her dependence on words.

I wrote this at 1 am so it's not as coherent as I wanted. I do think Cass can read, but I was wondering if...Batman had tried to teach her or set her up with some kind of lesson thing and when she had difficulty put it aside. (All "off screen " of course).

Maybe Batman didn't think about it, but I was thinking he'd want her to read since it would help her get around and find out information etc.

See, up until JUST THIS MOMENT, I didn't have any unhealthy Babs identification issues. None.

Then I realized... wait, that's me. You're talking about me!

And I remember that the fight with the crazy ex that almost got me killed started out about spelling. Because I snapped at him the way Babs did at Cass.
