Need advice

I screwed up on efiling my taxes so I just got my return. I started looking again at tickets for NOLA and it looks like the cheapest I'll be able to get is around $350. I seriously doubt that the price will drop a signifcant amount between now and then. I'm thinking about trying priceline but I'm not exactly sure how it works. Iknow that if they accept your price the ticket is automatically bought but I'm not sure what goes on when it's not accepted -- do you just try again?

I'm seriously doubting that I'll get a ticket for much less. I did call teh airlines a few weeks back but the prices they quoted were about $50 more than what I was finding through travelocity.

It's NOLA and Buffistas! and Buffistas! It wouldn't be any more cost effective for me to drive. Not taking into account the cost of fuel, I'm a temp so if I don't work I don't get paid.

I feel greedy and materialistic to think "I could get a couch!" but I could. And I'm feeling so much healthier and confident that I think driving to South FL or Atlanta to see certain buffistas would be totally doable.

Any advice?

I've had very good luck with Priceline in the past. I usually start around $150 or $175 and move up from there if I have no luck. I can't remember how many times they let you do that - you might have to come back the next day after the first or second. But it's definitely worth a try.

Lately I've been using a new travel metasearch at www.kayak.com. I suspect you'll find something considerably less than that. I haven't decided whether I'm going yet. And you certainly should drive to Atlanta sometime.

Tally just doesn't have a lot of good competition for flights, the only discount airline left last June. We have Northwest/Contitental and Delta. It's not as bad as it used to be, when many people drove to Jacksonville rather than deal with the insane costs.

Kayak.com got me $294. I think the cheapest I saw the tickets was $200.

I'm still interested in spending a long weekend at Islands of Adventure...

And we still really want to go. In fact, at one point B, Trudy and I were seriously considering going there. Then we decided to go to Toronto instead...

But, you know, maybe a long weekend in, say, September - is that off season? At least the kids will be in school - might still be doable.

September would be the off season, but I'd suggest mid or late October if you can. It's still going to be too hot for you guys in September.
