askye at 08:31pm on 15/11/2006I've never finished a Jane Austen novel. I've started Pride and Prejuidce and Emma and never got past the first few chapters, the books just didn't grab me so I moved Austen to my "Authors I Don't Like" list.
But I keep trying to read her books because I have them and I'm determined to read all the books I own. The other night I was bored and casting about for something to read and I found Mansfield Park. I know next to nothing about the book, it's an old paperback edition, but I figured what the heck, if it didn't interest me maybe it would bore me to sleep.
Except I like it. Totally unexpected. I'm not even 100 pages in yet and it's slow going (I lost track of who Mrs. Grant was at one point) but it's very enjoyable. I'd totally given up on Emma because I've started it several times and I've decided I just don't like the character Emma.
