I'm in a FOUL mood.
Some of it is fandom related and some of it is personal but it's kinda tied together.
First--this bullshit about "I didn't know." as an excuse to plagerize or steal from vids or whatever, doesn't wash. I'm not buying it.
When I started reading fanfic online (however many years ago) there was no one to tell me why people had disclaimers, there was no one to say "hey stealing from other people's stories is wrong." But I knew, I figured it out. I wasn't stupid.
If you can figure out how to use software to make a vid or figure out how to write use LJ for that matter then you are smart enough to figure out these concepts out.
They are basic. Plagerism is WRONG. Hell, I've been taught that since I was in elementary school.Because when I was in third grade a kid got busted for plagerism and we had the talk about how that was wrong.
My teacher didn't let an 8 yr old get away with it. I sure as hell am not going to let an adult or a teenager get away with it.
"I didn't know. No one told me. I didn't see rules posted anywhere." I'm not buying those. Anyone who uses those as an excuse has just used up what little respect I had left for them.
And this attitude by some people "well we take from the source so it's no big to steal from a fellow fan."
Yeah--big clue here--no one is taking 3 minutes of continous footage from any show, putting music over it and calling it a vid and then claiming they did all the work.
First it would suck and second--it's stealing. For god's sake.
Like if, I don't know, I started claiming that Wes was mine or something.
I've used dialouge straight from Angel, but I don't claim it's mine, I don't try to trick anyone into thinking that those are my words.
People who steal from vids and say "look what I made" or people who steal from fiction and say "look what I made" They are trying to TRICK the consumer into thinking that all of it was their original work.
And if you are one of those people who says "well it's just fandom, well it doesn't matter becuase we take from the shows."
I want to know your name. I want to know what you write and vid so I can stay away from it. So I can tell everyone one I know "hey that person is a THIEF!"
And how does this relate to my personal life?
Yeah well at dance class a scumbag creep (who I knew was creepy) asked me about my hair. It's short and spiky by the way. I wear black alot (this has relevance)
He wanted to know if I was keeping the look. Then he said "what's next? whips and chains?" and then said "isn't that how you get guys?" I don't know if you was supposed to be me personally or you in general.
This guy is---it doesn't matter how old, really--in his fifties.
He tells me that he didn't know I'd be upset.
He didn't know that askign a woman he barely knows if "whips and chains" are next and if that's how she gets guys is WRONG?
Especially in the surroundings we were in?
How the HELL Can he not know that it might be wrong?
He said he didn't know I'd be offended, that he was doing anythign wrong.
Fucker. Him and all the damn thieves in fandom.

(no subject)
As a general rule, people suck. Let's kill them all. Or at least prune out the really obnoxious ones.
