Went and saw Two Towers again at the dollar theater. Found out all matinees are $.50, I'll be going to more matinees---I mean how I can I not? Daredevil is playing there right now, but that's about the only other movie I want to see.
Too bad movies like Bend it Like Beckham don't get shown there.
There were people at the theater who'd never seen Two Towers before, it was weird to hear their reactions while I was reciting dialouge along with the characters (under my breath of course). When I left two men were complaining the movie was stupid and didn't make sense. I guess they never saw LoTR.
And in the front row, right in cernter were a couple a kids who kept making out.
Anyway, I tried really really really hard this time to see the subtext between--well, anyone. Really hard. And I didn't see it. I looked at anything that might be slashy and I just didn't see it that way. Which doesn't mean I don't think that it's wrong for anyone to interpert it that way I just can't see it.
My Stargate love continues. I'm still looking for fic though. I need to know a good rec site. I'm looking for Gen or Het though because I'm not quite at the slash point yet. I basically just started watching and I've only fully seen Season 2 so I'm kind of still at the "But Daniel still love Sha'rae (or however its spelled) he's still mourning her loss, he can't move on yet" point. I'm sure I'll move on soon.
I want Teal'c fic! There's a Stargate 100 lj isn't there?

Even the, "You're late. You look terrible" followed by the oh-so-meaningful return of the Evenstar and the manly shoulder-squeezing didn't ping?
Huh.
'Cause I didn't see any slash in FotR, but TTT had some nice slashy moments. *g*

My memory is fuzzy about excatly when but at some point in Lord of the Rings Aragorn tells Legolas "you're late" or something similar to that. So Legolas was just throwing the line back at him.
And as for the meaningful return of the Evenstar. Legolas knew what it meant to Aragorn and he kept it safe for him and then returned it to him. Not as token of his affection but becuase it was Arwen's to Aragorn.
I just don't see any slashy at all in the movie. I've tried, honestly, but I don't. Especially not between Frodo and Sam. I can't see their relationship that way, knowing what I do from the books.

I'm still upset they've cut all the lovely Legolas/Gimli subtext from the books out of the movies.
SG recs
Destina's Rec Site (http://www.lyricalmagic.com/miscrecs2.html), while slash-centric, has a good selection of gen fic. If you haven't read them yet, I recommend starting with Rheanna's stories because they kick ass. They are th first stories I read in the fandom, and still some of the best.
Versaphile (http://versaphile.com/sgrecs/) is a decent general SG fic rec site. You can go to the directory and search by slash/gen/het, etc.
Christina Kamnikar (http://chaos.horsechicks.com/fanfic_stargate.html), who wrote some lovely Buffy fic as well, has a small body of SG gen/het fic, primarily Daniel-centric. I like her stuff a lot.
Alli Snow (http://www.two-lights.net/fanfic.html) writes mainly Sam/Jack (a bit too schmoopy for my taste), but there are some good gen stories on her page.
Lastly, SG fanfiction award (http://www.sg1-awards.com/) site: A lot of people are not happy with the winning stories, but at least they are not dreck. Personally, I find the stories there a bit of a hit-and-miss.
Happy reading!
Re: SG recs
The links for Rheanna's stories was broken, do you know if there is a more current website?

I've seen this sort of thing before, and it continues to baffle me, even as I come to understand it.
I have come to undersztand that much of the movie-going public...
1) Just buys a tickets to whatever is starting next. This goes a long way towards explaining why some people will go see a movie and get their hackles up, when just the tiniest bit of research into currently playing movies would have told them this film would get their hackles up.
2) knows next to nothing about who these people are, what else they've done, what movies are playing now...
I really just don't understand. I know it's a personality difference between myself and them, but I don't understand why they're going to the movies, then.
This experience is made much more surreal by living in Hollywood and watching the tourists. I've watched tourists walking down the street and look at people's stars like Clint Eastwood or Sylvester Stallone and ask each other "who is that?"
I mean, not knowing stuff about movies, but paying to watch the pretty pictures anyway is one thing, but planning a trip to the filmmaking capital of America while not really knowing anything at all about films and starts??? How were you planning on having any fun???
People are very strange.

I mean, it's worth a try, no?

But then who would we use to make fun of the inarticulate?
