Go no sleep last night even though I went to bed early. Am very tired.
forgot to write that I saw Horatio Hornblower. The first movie. I really enjoyed it. Way more than I thought I would since I was only watching this to satsify my sourcematerial curiosity.
And now I want to read the books. However, I want to know how they compare to the Master and Commander series. I still haven't finished the first book -- I keep getting confused over the nautical details. Is Horatio Hornblower easier to read? Would it in any way help me understand the ship stuff in M&C.
I wanted to know about the sadistic midshipmen with the skull tattoo -- do the books flesh out his character more? While I was watching him I wanted him to get beat down, and was rather disappointed when he turned into such a coward at the end. Really between that and Sharpe not beating down the sadistic general (no, he wasn't a general...the guy with the handle bar mustache and the massive fear of dogs and Irishmen) -- anyway he got off too light and should have been beat down. Instead he was left to cry in ther river like a coward.
So any opinions on HH the books.
