Vids: Organization and the Search for More vids [Collected Thoughts]

I took an idea from

justacat and I'm starting a spreadsheet for all the vids I've downloaded.

It took me a while to figure out what information I wanted to record and now it's taking awhile to enter everything. I have 187 vids on my computer and then the Vividcon dvd set (although there is some duplication).

That's 187 vids in 13 different fandoms (although for some I just have one vid). Most are Buffy/Angel vids (counted as one fandom) because that's what I started out downloading and that's also been the easiest for me to find. Also these aren't just vids that I like, I decided a few months ago to keep every vid I download even if I don't like it. I came to that decision after I found myself downloading vids I'd seen and deleted but forgot the names/vidders. And at the time I had dialup so that meant spending an hour or two waiting for a vid to download.

By the way if anyone can point me in the direction of good Stargate, Firefly, and QaF (US), or Homicide vids.

And does anyone know if there are Ultraviolet or MI-5 vids.

Out of curiosity, what fields are you recording in Excel?

Vidder, Vid Title (if there is one), Song, Artist, Format, Website, Email, Pairing (if any), Characters the vid focuses on, If I sent Feedback (which is usually no, because I've fallen behind), Comments.

What I'm finding is that I don't have a lot of identifying information on certain vids---the vidder, the song name or artist---so I'm going to have to go back and search for information about the vids. Even if I do know who did the vid, I don't often have an email address.

Well, I know you already have our site, www.triptychvids.com. We have lots of Stargate and some Buffy. We will eventually have some Firefly (I'm planning at least one). Carol listed some Stargate sites and some good Stargate groups on our links page. I know www.headtilt.com has some good QaF vids.

I'm not sure about Homicide, Ultraviolet or MI-5, though.

Firefly vidders may start to come out of the woodwork again soon but, some are still a little nervous from the craziness back in February.

I've been visiting triptych quite often and I should have all the vids downloaded soon. Watching vids is much more addictive than reading fanfic. Especially since I like to see vids to the same song and see the different interpretations.

My project after I get everything on the spreadsheet is to work down the list for sending feedback since all the contact information will be right there.

Wow! I inspired you! I'm warning you, though ... once you start heading down this anal-retentive road, it's hard to get off ... Soon you'll find yourself obsessing over what color to put the vid name in, or whether the vidder column should be 2 inches wide or 3. And when you figure those out ... well, there's always another detail to obsess over! *g*

I don't think I'll get that particular. I only organize is sparodically. Unless it's a work situation then I'm constantly trying improve things.

Hmm. Well, here's a list of the Stargate vids in my Favorites folder. Looking at this, most of them I'm all "I don't remember now where this is!" or "it's not publically available!" but I'll going to list them all anyway, in case you run across them. Also I won't mention the ones on the Vividcon set, though I love them, since you've already seen them.

Note that the criteria for getting into my Favorites folder is "I would be sad if I never watched this again." Also note that upon making this list, I have noticed that my net hasn't been cast very wide, has it? Oh well. No harm done.

Another Train, by

barkley. Barkley's vids aren't publically available for download, but if you e-mail her privately she might be able to work something out. Daniel character vid.

Bed, by Jo and Rhian. Sam/Jack/Daniel, with some truly wonderful reuse of scenes that mean something *completely different* in the show. ("Wait, that's not actually the most awkward dinner party ever! They're actually talking abot diet soda in that scene!")

Full Circle (Path), by SE. An episode-based vid, instrumental, retelling Full Circle.

I Am Mine, barkley, Daniel character vid.

The Impression That I Get, Carol S., Paul Davis character vid. I assume this is available at TriptychVids, though I have to confess I haven't gotten in there yet. (Still working through a downloading backlog... three cheers for broadband!)

Language, by Carol S., Jack/Daniel.

ximeria. Jack/Daniel. Can be found here. The last section (with the Full Circle clips) I find a little difficult, but hey, it's in the folder because I liked it.

Never Die Young, barkley, Jack character vid, post-Meridian.

One Tin Soldier, barkley, er... narrative? I have no idea how to categorize this. Anyway, it's good. Also the punk version of One Tin Soldier is hilarious.

Pinky and the Brain, by felar. I have no clue where I found this; it's Jack and Daniel as Pinky and the Brain. Also there's a cameo Riley voiceover. I adore it, despite the fact that it's technically a little rough.

Pretty Angry, barkley, Jack character vid (S6).

Rite of Passage, Destina, Skaara character vid. This should also be available at TriptychVids.

So It Goes, Destina, Jack/Daniel.

Sorrow (Your Heart), Barkley, Daniel/Sha'uri (this is all movie footage).

Tom Sawyer, Barkley. Jack blows shit up. Then he hits people! And blows shit up some more! And is cool, and attractive!

The Stargate vids I have are mostly from triptychvids, which you should definitly check out.
