There's a community [livejournal.com profile] fandom_scruples that wants everyone who posts NC-17 fic without proper warnings or in a livejournal that's not friends locked to be scolded!

For being immoral. But not bad people.

I think the idea is to protect innocent under 18 readers from finding smut. Which I find stupid becuase I didn't have the internet when I was under 18 and I found plenty of smut to read.

This is what I posted, but since the comments are screened I know it won't end up on the journal.

Put me on the blacklist! even though I have nothing to be blacklisted for.

I'm thirty years old (just to give a reference)---I didn't have the internet when I was under 18. And I didn't need it to find smut, I did that on my own in the oldfashioned way. I read books, books that you can find in the horrible, horrible place called the LIBRARY.

Maybe you should go around and scold libraries that allow teenagers to check out books like Clan of the Cave Bears and Stephen King's IT. I know, you should insist that the librarians patrol the stacks to see who is reading Nancy Friday and Anais Nin. 'Cause I did that too.

And magazines. I read about how to make sex better in Redbook. My mom had it.

I read about incest and adultery and sex poems in--- the Bible!! Better keep that away from children as well.

So put me on yout blacklist because I'm wicked because I'm not a bad person but I do hate attempts at censorship and bullying.

Clan of the Cave Bears

Oh, The Valley of Horses was much better, sex-wise. Jondalar, mmmmmmmmm. *g*

You know what I forgot to mention.

Flowers in the Attic.

Everyone I knew read it, passed it around, etc. VC Andrews was very very popular with girls in my schools.

You know, I just have an adult content on my userinfo page. I do usually warn when I talk about sex or something odd but that's a courtesy for people who read at work.

Who are these people who think THEY are the freaking police?

Is it fic? Or is it any content that they find offensive?

I think it's a well-intentioned yet silly effort to keep innocent kiddies from searing their retinas on blisteringly hot sex.

After I posted my comment I discovered it's Harry Potter fandom.

The person is really squicked by incestfic and other explicit stuff. And as it always goes, because one person is squicked the idea is to protect the "innocents."

The way I've seen fandom work someone in one fandom comes up with some idea and the next thing you know it's spread to other fandoms. I can just see someone posting "what about the underage fans in Buffy! in LoTR!" or going so far to start trying to get people who write RPS to lock their stories and hide them from the impressionalbe children.

Impressionable children who can go find VC Andrews. That was my first exposure to incest made hot and steamy. And then there were the other books in the other series.

My very fist introduction to incest was Lot and his daughters after the Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed.

Where is this going on? Your community tag didn't work.

I corrected it in my entry and then copied that to my reply. I'm not sure what happened.

Thanks. Took a look. Is this Harry Potter fandom? The sanctimoniousness is a bit sickening.

One of my chief teenage joys was reading stuff I wasn't supposed to have. I wouldn't take that away from anyone.

I'm not only going to ask to be put on the list, but also plan on reposting the list with encouragement to read the fic of all the people on the list.

Unfortunately at this time you can't ask to be put on the list.

They've deleted the first post and now only have the Blacklist posted and the post saying they want the con boycotted.

It seems that whoever is behind this (who remains anonymous) disabled the comments and deleted the comments in the latest post. And there is no contact email address for them.

Someone told me that the first post, where you can nominate someone, has been friends locked. I friended it but I doubt I'll be friended back.

That really blows. So, they're protesting, but shutting off any capacity to challenge or engage their protest. Lame.

I can still repost the list and encourage people to read the fics.

Yeah, only if you are on their friends list can you nominate people for either the black list or the gold list (the gold list would be anyone who either approves of them or puts their nc-17 stuff behind password protected sites or friendslocks).

You can't contact them to be taken off the list. According to the management you can only be taken off the list if you comply.

However, there is theblacklist (http://wwww.livejournal.com/community/theblacklist.com) on LJ, which is a community created in backlash of Fandom scruples. You can go there to nominate people who write smut so that others can find the smut.

I do encourage you to tell people about this and read the blacklisted writers. The person behind fandom scruples kept saying that this isn't about censorship or pressuring anyone to do something they wouldn't.
