I was randomly sitting here when I suddenly remembered a religous tract kind of thing that we had at my Southern Baptist church way back when.

They were little comic books that told a story of how you would burn in hell for doing certain things. The only one I really remember is the D&D one. There was a poor soul who got so caught up in D&D that he almost thought he was his character. And then his character was killed and even though he begged the DM his character wasn't brought back to life.

So the kid hung himself. And then went to hell.

What I was thinking is that I'd love to collect all of those just because most were so bizarre. But I don't know what they were called or where to find them.

YES! those are them. Except they changed the D&D one to a female. And I don't remember actual spell casting, just a devstated boy killing himself over the death of his character.

Holy. crap.

It amazes me the energy and hate people put into such stupid things.

People would sometimes leave them lying around the dorms at Tulane. Drove me nuts.

A church my family went to for a few years had these regularly available to anyone, especially to kids. I remember some girl who took them to heart (or some of the tracts), she always talked about how she didn't listen to the radio because it was bad for you.

But she also watched soaps on a regular basis, so I'm not sure how she justified that.

They're called Chick Tracts -- they're done by someone named Jack Chick. There's a website somewhere, I think.

Thermidor gave me the link. I forgot how anti Catholic they were.

They're pretty much anti-everything-not-conservative- Protestant. Anti-Catholic, anti-Jewish, anti-Native American, anti-Hindu, anti-Muslim, anti-you-name-it.

What's wrong with me that I never cease to be amazed at real-life BADFIC??

They handed these out and left them lying around at the church I went to when I was about 11 or so. I didn't take them seriously then, especially the D&D one---I remember thinking "that's not how it works!"
