Today was a long fucking day.

Class!! So my argument and persuasion class is going to focus a lot on the media. WHOO!!! I can totally do that!!! We ended up in little groups, I think these will be our groups for the semster. If not I hope I get this one guy that was in my group, S. He's ... a little alt. Doesn't watch tv, totally down on the news channels and a sense of humor. We had to get info and introduce one person -- one of the questions was "What is an argument you'd like to win?" My team's answers were: Waffles v pancakes (pro waffle), McDonalds v Burger King (pro King), and "always win DS9 is the best Trek". I broke with the food debate, but I should have gone with Dunkin Donuts v Krispy Kreme (pro Dunkin).

Other people were serious. One girl got upset because the person introducing her accidentally listed her argument as "abortion should be legal." The girl is really anti abortion.

I will need to get the new book. It's about $60 and paperback. There's a handbook but I'm going to ask [livejournal.com profile] _ej_ if I can borrow hers.

For class we read an essay in our text, answered group questions, then wrote 3 paragraphs for one of three questions. There will be a lot of in class writing and 4 (I think) timed writings. Plus one research paper. My homework is to bring in an editorial (and be prepared to discuss it), read pags 1-29 and write three journal entries. The journal is for writing comments or thoughts while reading assignments. And be ready to discuss the essay.

I think I can do this, I just have to make sure I don't procrastinate.

Give me the name of the book and the edition, and if you have it, the editor/author and even the ISBN number and we'll see if we can find it cheaper online.....

The book is Read, Write, and Reason. I need the 7th edition and so far I've only been able to find the 6th edition anywhere online.

Could it be Read, Reason, Write?

Wow, 7th edition was just released at the end of july/beginning of august.

In that case, it might be hard to find a discount or used copy.

I think after work i'll go get my id made and get the book.

It's new enough that the essay we read Tuesday was about Kobe Bryant.

To help remind me of fixed due dates, I mark up a big prominent calendar (or else do the same online with my work computer) so that I have it 'in my face' several days in advance of the task. I'm just ADD enough that I really do FORGET about stuff, so I need all the help I can get!

The class sounds like it will be fun if you set yourself up not to stress about it...!

Sounds like a fun class! I loved debate class, even though I took it the semester when my health started going downhill. There was one guy in the class who other people were scared to debate because he was so good at arguing his point; but when my partner & I went up against him & his partner, I killed him in cross-examination. I loved that feeling. :-)
