I'm going to plant things. It's very exciting, this whole idea of gardening. Anything I've tried before has died, but I'm hoping this time will be different.

I went to the nursery and talked to a lady there. I want to plant herbs and maybe lettuces, and she took me around and explained things and kept pulling off bits of this and a leaf of that and saying "Here! Taste this! Doesn't it taste like..." I left with my hands smelling pungent and my mouth full of sweet, sharp, fresh, lemony, garlicy goodness.

Dad planted pansies and a new rosemary plant, the old one had finally died.

I'm going to plant lavendar and thyme near the rosemary and pansies. Then in boxes and these round tubs cilantro, parsley, sage, oregnao, and there was something else that I tasted that was lovely but I forgot the name.

Then in pots I'm going to get: a bay tree, chives, and marjoram.

Oh and feldsalat and maybe sorel and spinach.

Luckily there is lots of room to plant in the ground and move around containers to make sure everything gets the sunlight and drainage it needs.

I'm pretty sure Mom still has all the terracotta pots in her garage that have been there forever, unless she got rid of them during a cleaning phase.

I've wanted to try my hand at herbs for awhile now and lately I've been trying to cook more, and I hate buying those little bags of herbs. And on various Food TV shows (like 30 minute meals) they use things like fresh bay leaves and I can't find those anywhere except on the plant in the nursery.

If anyone with a green thumb has some hints or tips I'd love to hear them.

My only advice is to water things until they die and then give them to my mom who will resurrect them and give them back so I can water them until they die, etc.

Man, I'm blown away that you are planting. We've got some pumpkins still on the grow, but everything else needs to be put to bed.

The joys of a temperate climate!!

The high for tomorrow is 28C. Dad's pretty good with plants, although the peppers he planted did horribly. There are some things it's too late in the season to grow, like basil. I think it's too late for the Mexican tarragon as well. Plus we have to grow things here like Spanish Lavender because English Lavender won't grow here. It's the same with a few other things, we can grow the sort of like plants but not the real plants.

Tomorrow we expect a high of 11 and a low of 4; there's a 0% chance of precipitation, or we could have some snow.

(that's about 52 and 39 in Farentheit)
