Theother day I was all whoo! See my mad computer skillz!
ahem.
Yes well my stupid neglect of my computer and some how clicking on something I know damn well I shouldn't have has led to disaster. The current condition reminds me slightly of the Simpsons episode where the doctor inspect Mr. Burns and determined that Burns's body was like a door way and all the disease and whatnot were trying to get through at the same time but were stuck. A precarious balance where medicine would throw everything off and Burns would die.
My computer, evidentally, had that precarious balance and I shifted something out of whack and now it's just ..there.. I can turn it on but it takes a long damn time to start up and then it takes even longer for programs to start.
I will not be trying to repair my computer for a variety of reasons. Mostly it's not worth the time and money to try and figure this out. The computer is eitehr 5 or 6 years old, which in computer years is beyond ancient. Also if I do try to fix it then I'll try to use it and think "well, I could go a little while longer without trying to get a new computer."
I know I'm getting some money toward a computer for Xmas so I'm taking that and saving every cent and I'll talk to my cool co worker about helping me get a computer off ebay. It seems like the sensible thing to do. There is stuff on my computer I do want and I'm not sure how I'm going to get it off, but I'll figure it out.
So my only computer access will be at work or Mom's. Or maybe I could use Dad's, like I'm doing now, but I really dont' want to.
My Xmas shopping is done. I just finished making a certificate for my brother for a cd shopping spree, that will happen sometime after the first of the year. And I need to make him another to redeem for GNR's Appetite for Destruction which I downloaded to Mom's computer. Then I also got him a gift card to Border's. I found a book - a western-- to get Dad and I really hope it's not a gift giving disaster like giving him the book A River Runs Through It and having him tell me that it was okay except there was a lot of whoring and drinking in it. Gee thanks dad.
Then last year I got him the first novel of a local biology guy who has several non fiction books out..well out of print. I didn't really pay attention to the plot or the cover. The title is Potluck, it's about shrimpers who turn to pot smuggling when the shrimping goes bad. It not only says this on the back cover but on the front there is a big pot leaf. Which I totally ignored. I'm not sure how Dad liked it but knowing him it wasn't really the best gift. I did get him a non fiction book by this guy and I'm pretty sure he'll like it. Also got him a Gift card to Borders. Yay borders.
Mom is so easy to shop for so my biggest problem there was not picking up one more little thing.
Now I have to wrap a few more presents and do laundry so I have something besides pajamas to wear tomorrow.
Also, this no computer thing is going to put a cramp in my fic reading. Which sucks because all the secret santa challenges are coming up. I'm okay with reading some stuff on Mom's computer, but not nc-17 rated stuff. That's just weird.
