It is plausible it's TMJ pain (the joint where the jawbone hinges against the skull)? There's a little bit of cartilage in there that can get irritated and swollen. That can radiate in all kinds of ways, and might be felt as earache. If it is TMJ pain, a regularly-scheduled course of Motrin (or Advil or any other ibuprofen product) will reduce any internal swelling and help whatever's wrong heal more quickly.

It might, but I think there's fluid in my ear. I'll take something and see if the pain goes away.
