I caught the NCAA hockey championship on ESPN, from the middle of the second period on. Dad and I were watching Horatio Hornblower and Mom calls: "Turn to channel 8! Right now! (8 is ESPN) Hockey!! I saw it and thought of you. I don't know who or why or how but there's hockey!" "Mom! Thanks!" click.

I turned it over so fast and watched glued to the screen, ignoring Dad. I don't know those teams, didn't know their story but god! It's a beautiful game. The sound of skates on ice and the players moving along the ice -- the sound of players hitting the boards. It was amazing to watch. Denver's goalie was a freshman -- my god but he's good. -- Mannino, remember that.

One of the most beautiful sights is the gloves and sticks and helmets flying and the winning team piling on top of their goalie.

One of the most heartbreaking sights is a player with his head down on his gloves, not looking because the championship's out of their grasp and there's still time on the clock.

Too late this year I realized there was an ECHL team closer than I thought. Next season I'll be going to games. Hopefully the NHL will be back and I can go watch my Bolts.
