I caught the NCAA hockey championship on ESPN, from the middle of the second period on. Dad and I were watching Horatio Hornblower and Mom calls: "Turn to channel 8! Right now! (8 is ESPN) Hockey!! I saw it and thought of you. I don't know who or why or how but there's hockey!" "Mom! Thanks!" click.

I turned it over so fast and watched glued to the screen, ignoring Dad. I don't know those teams, didn't know their story but god! It's a beautiful game. The sound of skates on ice and the players moving along the ice -- the sound of players hitting the boards. It was amazing to watch. Denver's goalie was a freshman -- my god but he's good. -- Mannino, remember that.

One of the most beautiful sights is the gloves and sticks and helmets flying and the winning team piling on top of their goalie.

One of the most heartbreaking sights is a player with his head down on his gloves, not looking because the championship's out of their grasp and there's still time on the clock.

Too late this year I realized there was an ECHL team closer than I thought. Next season I'll be going to games. Hopefully the NHL will be back and I can go watch my Bolts.

Yay, hockey! Except, of course, that it's just not my sport. Still, you enjoyed that game, so I'm all for it.

Wanna see my mind get all 'splodey? World Series? 7 close games, Diamondbacks just barely beating the Indians, who'd take Boston out of the playoffs come October, then send the Yankees home in shame.

I've never really gotten into baseball, but it's been a long sportless drought without hockey so I'm thinking of watching a game or two -- really watching and not kind of scorning. And maybe going to see a college game since everyone says it's different when you see baseball live and we do have a good baseball team.

Discovering hockey has kind of taken the shine out of my love for football. I never thought of football as being really slow until I compared it with the speed and fluidity (is that a word?) of hockey. With hockey the final minutes mean something -- sure it may be impossible for the losing team to win (or maybe even score a goal) but there are usually shots on goal -- there's plenty of action. Football has a tendancy to stagnat at the end. And the games end, sometimes, without the clock actually running out, because there's no chance of the other team even getting the ball.

Fluidity is a word, and a good one. I have on occasion turned on a football game of my own accord and watched it by myself. Like, the Hall of Fame pre-season game featuring the newly re-constituted Browns vs. the Cowboys. Ok, in reality? That was the most recent time. So, I'm not a big football fan. And I have never tuned in to watch a baseball game by myself.

But I find it enjoyable to watch a game in a room full of people who really like it.
