I'm full time, but my position is still temp and not permenent so when I don't work I don't get paid. There are no benefits for temps, which sucks. And I'm not holding my breath that my position will be made permenent. There's this whole process of justifiying why the position needs to be made permement, and then presenting that the budget hearings, etc. The City is full of temps -- either agency or in house. Negative Woman, who's in another division was pissed that I got made city temp becuase she's been there longer than I have and she's still agency. But that decision is up to the division. I honestly don't understand the whole process.

And there's going to be lots of upheaval for the division as a whole. The Maintenance Supervisor wants to demote both the janitorial foremen. We are short one foreman, and we need two more janitoral people but we can't keep the position filled. It's stupid and complicated.

It does sound both stupid and complicated. And sleazy, too. I mean, they do it here as well; keeping people temp or contract or just under fulltime so they don't have to give them benefits.
