I need to return some books, but I wanted to see if any of my ILL stuff was in and also to let them know that they still don't have my contact info right. Then I got sucked upstairs where they had the Banned Books Week display. They had a cool little display, with a black box with red xmas lights to make it glowing and caution tape around everything and a huge sign that said BANNED BOOKS! And something like Look at your own risk. But I don't remember. I picked up Uylsses, also on the table was one book, Grendel, I'd never heard off and a few others.
Then I picked up a few more books. My ILL stuff wasn't in, but I went ahead and logged onto my account there and renewed the dvds I have. Since I wasn't checking out any dvds I went ahead and used their self check out for books. It was really cool. You put your library card down, then the books, then it spits out a little receipt and off you go! Putting the books on the machine clears them so they won't set off the alarm.
Once I was downstairs I told them how cool it was and how much I liked it. Also, I asked about what they are doing for banned books week. They've been having local celebrity types read parts of banned books, but only around lunch time. Since I work so far away it's not feasible for me to take part in that. But for Bookfest in November, Ann Prachett will be doing two readings, both at night. Then on November 19 is the annual book sale.
