There's a major crackdown on internet usage at work. There's a new filtering program that filters EVERYTHING. And there are some pages that have quotas, which I'm not sure how it works except I clicked on a news article on Yahoo and it told me that the article was blocked because it was Financial, but I had a quota and could look at it for 10 mins. But what happens is first someone in the IT department has to see what you are looking at and deem it okay.

Everyone in my office was a little stunned at the new rules. Webmail is completely blocked out as are any chat, forums, etc. So basically no one is going to be online. I'm not sure exactly how this will effect me, definitly more work will be getting done. Either that or people will get more creative with killing time (none of the upgraded computers have games on them).

Also next Sunday Mom and I are going to see the University's production of Sweeney Todd. I'm quite excited about that as I love love love Sweeney Todd.

There are always ways around such things. Read your employee handbook and/or contract carefully before going much further down that road, though.

There's really no way around this. We are allowed to access the internet for personal use during breaks only and for very limited amounts of time according to the rules. But I'm not allowed to be at my desk during my lunch break (because part of my job is reception, so if I'm at my desk people think I'm working and ask me to do things.) --and really I don't have complaints about that because I'm one of the few people who has the luxury of spending an entire hour on their lunch break.

Yes we did! (I couldn't remember the name of the filter at first).

I take it there are no cheats around websense.

It does suck. I can access the newspaper so I'm up on local news. I try not to spend too much time online, but the computer is RIGHT THERE and also sometimes you just need to see what's going on in the world.

Ew, that Internet crackdown doesn't sound like fun at all. :-(

Either that or people will get more creative with killing time (none of the upgraded computers have games on them).

I'm guessing this will happen. Killing time seems to be some kind of weird psychological need.

But hooray for getting to see Sweeney Todd!

I'm really excited, the paper gave the University a good review so I'm really excited. In a few months they are going to do The Philadelphia Story (which I also love) so I'll probably get tickets for that.
