askye at 12:22pm on 07/09/2008Things that make you want to tear your hair out -- yesterday at the football game there was a woman and a teenage girl sitting behind us talking about her high school and the coach of some team (I think volleyball or soccer) and the principal. The girl said the coach quit over the principal being so sexist, the coach wanted to have the minimum GPA be 3.0, the principal thought this was totally unnecessary since the girls would "just get married and get pregnant anyway." and evidentally this was just a list of things that he'd said.
That isn't the wanting to tear my hair out although you wonder what kind of CAVE this principal manages to live in if he thinks all women just get married and get pregnant and that's it.
What caused me to tear my hair out was this exchange "That's stupid! Women can do anything." (teenage girl) "Yeah! Look at Gov. Palin! She's doing it all! Look how amazing she is! and I only hear great thigns about her! (Adult woman).
I wanted to turn around and go -- what about Hillary Clinton, you know, the woman who was running for President? The one who ha severed as a Senator. Or what about Pelosi. Mom, politician.
Or! What about any other married mother who has a job?
It was like holding Palin up as some sort of example of someone doing something special. And they probably haven't been reading the news since there have been critical stuff.
Now I'm worried that people are going to vote for McCain/Palin over "ooh she's a woman!" when they should be looking at the facts and also the fact that she's not speaking to the press in interviews.
