Went to a Buddist/Tao/Zen discussion group this morning at the local UU church. Which gives me TWO things I've done that I never have done before for my therapy home work (the other was the peace rally).
I was really hoping that this would click. However it was a bust. First, it was mostly a discussion about The War.
Second, the guy who was running it has Issues. Issues with the UU church evidentally and Issues with "Us vs Them" stuff. He was railing against it, but ironically the more he railed the clearly it became that he sees things in an "Us vs Them" manner, but doesn't realize it.
The brief discussion about Buddhism/Zen/Taoism was unfocused and unsure.
I'm not going back to this group.

It was so...I had to remind myself I was a guest and not a troll and calling this guy a hypocrite wouldn't have gone over well either.
There are a few other Buddhist groups in town (by which I mean 3 or 4), but except for this one and the one i'm going to next Sunday, they are all very formal. And two of them are Tibetan, which I'm not interested in.
So, I have hopes for the next week. If not, I go back to reading whatever I can get my hands on and trying to find on line resources.
