Yoga does not want you to buy all that stuff, the people who made the yoga tape want you to buy all that stuff. I do yoga and don't use anything but a towel if I'm working on a cold floor. The accessories are just goodies.

Any solid block of wood will do what the boxes are for. They're to give you a few more inches if your hands won't reach the floor in some of the poses. I'm not familiar with what the balls are for.

What's great about yoga is that if you're out of shape--as I am after 15 years of not doing it--is that you go as far into the position as you comfortably can and hold it. The next repetition will show you more flexibility. The goal is not to stand on your hands, the goal is to get you flexible. It is a workout, even if you're only bending a little or lifting your legs a few inches. What happens with more practice is that you're bending further and lifting higher. After a full workout, I'm sweaty and breathing hard.

Don't push to the point of pain, push to the point of feeling the pull. And it does work. And, yes, the demonstration people are all stick people from Planet Zorkon. They are not your sort of people.

I've also found that, in a pinch, the 3-tape boxed set of BTVS episodes works well, too. Seriously.

And if the tape calls for a strap-type thing (to help you extend your reach when stretching, etc.), you can use the belt from a bathrobe just fine. That's all I use.

I don't have a three tape BtVS set, but I do have the Sean Connery James Bond box set that might work.

Thanks for the belt trick!

My hands don't come all that close to the floor so I'm going to have to devise something.

I haven't watched the yoga dvd all that much but I did see the shortest beginning workout was 30 mins. I need to watch the introduction that shows correct posture and the forms before I can start on the beginning work out.
