I also like those really sappy diamond commercials that everyone else seems to hate -- the one where the couple is standing out side and shouts "I love this woman!" I wouldn't mind if a guy did that for me. I'd be embarassed for a bit, but I'd still think it was romantic. There wouldn't even have to be jewelry.

Thus the hate, in my book at least. It's only when he pulls out the rock that she thinks it's okay.
