Collected Thoughts

Pre season has been under way. A few injuries. Sean Burke was put on waivers and then sent down to Springfield. Andreychuk is back with the Lightning, as Community Ambassador, which I think is great for him.

Pavel Kubina won't be playing in the opening game with the Leafs, he got himself suspended. I haven't seen it but he's not a dirty player, in fact the two main complaints about Kuby as a Bolt were: he's too slow and too soft.

But hockey will return! I don't have digital cable, so no Center Ice. However, there's Sunsports, Versus (at least they are spelling it out and aren't Vs.) and Florida Sports Network (where I can {hopefully} see the Panthers get beaten on a regular basis.

No cable for me. Well no extra cable. The tech came today and said everythign was fine on the outside.

But I get no love. So they are sending someone out Friday between 5-9 to come inside and figure out the problem. And I won't get charged until I actually can see something. I do have cable, if I just plug it straight into the tv then I can see everything and it's Gilmore Girls tonight. Which is supposed to be really good but I was more looking forward to Eureka and now I'm thinking maybe I'll just do laundry and read or play Bejeweled or something instead of watching tv.

I was really looking forward to watching cable tonight. Maybe see what was on Sci Fi or watch NCIS ON Demand. But there is no tv for me.

The guy came! He hooked it up! And then told me it might be a few hours for everything to download. I ran errands, went to the game came back. No cable.

Turns out he forgot to change the setting outside.  Which means I won't have cable until Tuesday. But at least I'll be able to watch Eureka.  It's stupid to be disappointed but I am.

Yesterday was my 1 month anniversary of being vegetarian! It's gone by so fast I had to double check the dates to make sure.

So far it's been easy, I've even eaten out a few times and haven't had a problem. And I've lost inches!! not so much weight but all my clothes fit differently. YAY!  It hasn't been an issue with my family or co workers either, which is nice.  Of course i've been broke and eating out of the pantry and mostly eating beans and rice and pasta so I'm looking forward to some fresh veggies.

Hopefully my oven will be repaired today so I can start thinking about really using it now that's it's cool in the evenings. Oh! It's been wonderful, really felt like fall, well fall here anyway.  There are some recipes I want to try out -- vegetable roasts and some cobblers-- also I want to do some baking, which I haven't been able to do at all.

Comcast is offering "Enhanced Cable" which is the cable channels but with some digital features like On Demand. This got me really excited because TCM is On Demand and I've missed watching it (plus all the good movies are on when I'm not watching). However, the customer service person I spoke to said that Enhanced Cable doesn't offer On Demand for cable channels in the package, only select channels that aren't in the package.  Like National Geographic and Noggin and others I couldn't remember. And also I'd get the music channels.

It was kind of confusing but I signed up for it because it was only a two dollars more than the package I was going to get.  The guy is coming Saturday to hook it up so I'll get the details then.

After work I have to bust ass to make sure my living area and kitchen look fantastic because the land lady will be there with someone to fix the oven. I'm hoping she doesn't have to use the bathroom or peek in my bedroom (the bathroom is in the bedroom) because I'm not cleaning that and it's going to look bad.

I just discovered my library has RSS feeds for all new acquisitions, divided by type (dvd - tv series, feature film) and dewey decimal system.

Five years ago I called in sick to work. I was thinking about not even turning on the computer or the tv and just reading. Instead when I passed by the tv I couldn't resist and flipped it on.  It was set to USA and I saw a partially collapsed sky scraper and a burning skyscraper and it looked like one of those cheesy "Live News Report" things on a movie so my first thought was "What kind of crappy movie is this???" And flipped the channel. 

It was on every channel and that's whe I stopped and watched. It was so hard to process.  It was unbelievable. I kept thinking "This is a Tom Clancy novel! " esp. when the Pentagon was hit. I also remember watching people in front of the Pentagon being interviewed and thinking "what if there are men with guns and they start shooting the people evacuating."  Planes flew into the WTC it didn't seem so unreasonable to think that maybe there would be snipers.

I spent most of the day on WX talking to the buffistas.  Getting reports and head counts at some point my grandma called and I went to her house. 

There was so much going on and eventually it was hard to watch the news coverage that was on every channel.  I ended up not watching the special that aired, because I was so overloaded and feeling a bit cynical about celeberties and musical guests. I wish I had watched it now though.
