Collected Thoughts

My stomach feels icky. Has most of the weekend, I think it's an adjustment to the no meat thing.  Of course right now it's because I ate too much mac 'n cheese.   Publix had a sale on Boca products so I bought some boca crumbles and some italian sausage things.  I had some of the crumbles in spaghetti, but not a lot and with other stuff mixed in and it was fine. The sausag things weren't.   So far I've hated the texture of every fake meat thing/veggie burgers I've tried EXCEPT the riblets (by Morningstar or Gardenburger, can't remember) but didn't like those because they were too salty. Which is fine really.

Told Dad last night about being a vegetarian and his first question was "How do you get protien?" then he asked "what do you eat?"  I ran through a list of stuff.  I was actually going to cook tonight but lost track of time.  This Saturday we're going to celebrate Grandma E's birthday with hamburgers and hot dogs, but I don't know what I'll take instead.

I've been meat free for FIVE Days! I'm just taking it one day at a time and I haven't let myself slip. 

The no meat thing is good because the freezer door didn't close all the way. It looks like a bag of frozen veggies slid down and popped it open slightly. However, almost everything was still partially frozen and there ice hadn't completed melted so I think the only things I'll have to thow out are the popsicles.

I've tried to watch anime on several occasions but nothing has quite struck me and I've never finished a season of anything. Although I did watch all of Fake.   I want to like some anime, and only partly because I'll stop hearing that I'm just not giving it at chance when I'm at the comic book shop (seriously, I hear it from everyone -- and they all have suggestions).

I watched the first disc of Cowboy Bebop and it didn't really interest me.  (I've heard I didn't give it enough time). I've tried Vampire Hunter D,  Saiyuki which was okay but I didn't like it enough to keep watching.  The visuals keep getting to me,  it looks really different from live action and that sort of gets in the way.

But last night I watched Fullmetal Alchemist and I really liked it. A lot. I can't wait to get the rest of the episodes.  The story was engaging, I like the relationship with the brothers and I was okay with it visually.

I've also watched the first disc of Alias S2. Poor Will! And Sydney! Dealing with Spy Mommy and Spy Daddy.  I keep wondering if she'll ever find out that SpyDaddy rigged the explosion and when she and Vaughn get together and what happens with Will. I was worried when the NA chick kept asking about SD6, I was thinking that Will would go to the CIA, but maybe he thought she was a plant by them or maybe he didn't think she was a plant.   Also like Sark (geez! the actor was just a baby when he played Sark! I thought he was just baby faced)  I can't wait to see him. The luge thing was eye rolly. It's cool to see more of the clips from the vid This Girl is Taking Bets (which is really the only Alias vid I've watched more than once).

Finally Life on Mars. Almost through the first season. Love this show. The voices that Sam keeps hearing and the little girl are just creepy. One of the creepiest thing was when the two police officers started talking in the doctors voices. 

Cat food is cat food right? It wouldn't hurt my 17 yr old cat if I gave her kitten food for awhile would it? Someone gave me a large container of kitten food and it would save me some money if I just used that for awhile.

The lovely theodosia sent me the Vividcon dvds which I watched Friday and yesterday but some how missed writing notes for most of disc 2, so I'll have to go back and watch. Here are my quick thoughts on the vids EDITED I Messed up the link for the playolist. Well add something later .


Intro - Snakes on a Plane!  I always love the vid intros.

Pants! - It's men in pants (and briefly Ewan McGregor without pants) how can it go wrong?

God Says Nothing Back - Supernatural vid. I barely know the source, I've seen only bits and pieces but it's a very beautiful vid and I liked the song.

Crazy - Life on Mars. I've seen 2 episodes so far, I recognized some of the clips but not all.  I was a little confused by the outside source (which I don't have a problem with) but it seemed like the vid was Sam's POV but then changed and I didn't quite catch it.

There - BSG I don't know enough of the source. I've seen most of season 1, but there's so much going on in BSG.

Davd - Angel. I've read a lot about this vid and I tried to keep an open mind, but Puppet!Angel and Angelus didn't quite work for me.

Be So Glad - Farscape. Another show where I'm iffy on the source. I watched it sporadically and right now I'm almost done with S1.  I loved the song choice and it makes me want to watch the show more.

Grapes of Wrath (BSG)  Really made me want to watch BSG. Fun.

Monochrome Carnivale. No nothing of the show at all. It seems creepy and intriguing

One Day Late - Firefly. Again, I've read a lot about this and I tried to watch with an open mind. I think if  it had just been a shot of Mal and not the line of dialouge it would have worked better for me.  However, I'm extremely picky when it comes to using dialouge in vids.

Like Sisyphus SGA  I need to watch this one again.  I'm not sure I liked most of it, but not the intro part and again it had dialouge but it was more mixed with the music.

Lullaby Dead Poets Society.  I think I've only seen the movie once in the theater. But I love the movie. I remember sitting there with my Mom in a packed theater (I remember the only empty seat was next to me) and sobbing all through the end. My glasses  kept fogging up and I was just wrecked the movie just tore me up.  The vid made me cry, about half way I just  started sobbing.  The clips of book were what undid me.

Statistics - Bones. Again I don't know the source and I was a little emotional over Lullaby. Need to watch again.

Princess Bride Abridged  Princess Bride. I wasn't overwhelmed by this vid, but I liked that it was just a condensed chronologlical retelling of the movie.

Ghost Song - Supernatural vid.

Walk the Line - Penguins!! It was a cute vid and who doesn't love baby penguins??

Supernatural Homesick Blues  X Files - I olnly have a sketchy memory of the show but I really liked the vid and I could follow most of it.

Battle of Evermore -  I wasn't familiar enough with Highlander.

Get By  - Angel Buffy - Faith and Angel's relationship. Definitly need to rewatch this, also find the lyrics. I did like the clip of Faith jumping through the glass of the prison for "unconditional love" lyric.

I'm trying to keep a list of what I've read/watched (books, vids, comics, etc) and so this is a start of the list. (also I'm going back and rereading.watching stuff) What I've been watching./reading and some quick thoughts.

I'm starting with older stuff-- BTVS

Ink by gchick This is a fantastic drabble of Willow in the S6 finale, puts you right there in her head.

Winners by Ins (sorry don't know if she has a lj). This is a fantastic story, I loved it the first time I read it and I love it every time I reread. It's Buffy and the gang (circa S5) fighting the fight. It's better with rereadings.

Wesley Rogue Demon by zortified & <lj user="mpoetess"?. This is a different story, I've seen a couple extreme reactions. The premise is Wesley isn't so much a Rogue Demon Hunter as ...well if you haven't read it you'll see. What I like about this story is the exploration of what forms our personalities and likes and dislikes and the outside influences on them. I read this at a time when I was making changes, trying to figure out what I geniunely liked or if I liked something just because someone else did and I wanted to fit in.

I'm about half way through the season. The last episode I watched was 15.
WEll, the last full episode I watched was probably 10, but in my eagerness to have MORE I sort of started skipping through the "boring" parts which means I must have missed some important things.

but right now I would love soem fic recs, but only stories that will keep me unspoiled for what happens after episode 15. No who killed Lily Kane I'm trying to be spoiler free.

But I am interested in reading fic. It can be any kind -- gen, het, slash, any rating. I would prefer stories where the term "LoVe" isn't used to describe V/L.

Now I've seen up to episode 7. I'll need to go back and watch because I'm kind of racing through the show in big gulps trying to catch up.

And because I'm impatient and I'm trying not to spoil myself.

Logan is more complicated than I thought but it wasn't episode 6 that had me me changing my mind but 7 when he went and confessed to helping Wevill and getting him unexpelled.

I think maybe I missed something because an episode ended with Veronica's mom leaving her a message on the cell phone and then it wasn't mentioned in the next one. I guess it will be mentioned at some point.

Caught up on SGA -- well Sateda. I also watched Irrestiable but that wasn't one of my favorites. I do have some comments about Sateda.
