Collected Thoughts

I don't want to work Although I don't think what I'm doing technically counts as work. There's a side project I need to do and the office is empty so it would be great to work on. Maybe in a little bit.

Right now I'm surfing the net and trying to find things out about Band of Brothers. I sent disc 1 back to Netflix, which I wish I hadn't. I want to watch it again. Actually I want them all RIGHT NOW!!!! so I can sit down and watch them all in a row. Like reading a book.

There are so many little details to pick up on (or miss) and it's not like every character is introduce with some exposition about their life. It comes out in bits and pieces, and I'm still not sure why that one guy calls Winters a Quarker. Is it just because he doesn't drink or smoke?

I really really need the book to get more back story. And I was checking IMDB and it looks like the actor who plays Winters doesn't have an extensive filmography and I really wanted to see him in more stuff.

With the weather what it is, I'm not sure if disc 2 will get to me as quickly as I normally get them.

I keep thinking that if I watch it all the way through again and then go back I'll have a better idea of who some of the characters are and be able to understand them better in the later episodes. And, in general, be able to pick them out because the guys all start looking alike.

Maybe I need to see if I can scrape up some money to get the book.

I barely got online this weekend. It was kind of nice, except for the part where I didn't do things I really needed to today. I really shoulda worked on figuring out a topic for my research paper. Plus once again I realized I never emailed my instructor...

During part of the day I was wondering about Ivan and when that will end up here. Looks like maybe Wednesday...obviously with Ivan there are still a lot of questions: where will it land? How strong will it be?

If it has to hit Florida, especially as a strong hurricane, I hope it hits up here. Not that I want to deal with a hurricane, but I don't want the pennisula to have to deal with more damage.

I spent most of the day watching Band of Brothers on History channel. I think I ended up watching all of them. Now I really can't wait to get them from Netflix. I kept flipping channels or doing other things so I missed chunks of the show. And it was edited for the History Channel, some of the dialouge was very obviously redubbed to be suitable. I was checking IMDB becuase I really wanted to get Neal McDonough's name instead of calling him the guy from Boomtown. Actually another guy was in Boomtown too...and I discovered that Kyle for BtVS episode "The Pack" was in it... I'd already put disc one and the Sports Night disc I've decided not to watch in an envelope to send back but I opened it to get Disc 1. I'm watching that over, and as much as I hate Sobel, now that I know what happens I can actually watch it.

I watched the Stargates today. I kinda fast forwarded through some parts, but I actually ended up seeing parts of SG1 twice last night.

I didn't watch the tape of the Fin/USA game.

The Czech/Canada game went into overtime, which I didn't see because football came on. But I'll be taping the Canada/Fin Final because I have class on Tuesday. Well, unless Ivan hits ahead of schedule.

Last night was FSU v Miami. It was also the first time I got to see the new OT rules for college football. FSU lost. And the best player for Miami? Rix. (He's the quarterback for FSU). He continually makes boneheaded stupid plays that a he shouldn't be making as a sophmore much less as a fifth year senior. He won't throw the ball away when he's in trouble. Or, at least, he won't throw it away reasonably. TWO interceptions where when he threw the ball when he shouldn't. And he tried to do a lateral pass while he was being tackled. Of course it was stripped and Miami recovered. And it doesn't matter how bad of a quarterback he is, he'll be the starter because Bowden doesn't change his mind about this.

Next year we get a new quarterback. Next year. The team would be better as a whole if the quarterback was better!!! It's so frustrating.

And I watched the first two parts of Band of Brothers. I'd actually seen it on History Channel and decided not to watch becuase I didn't konw if the episode I was watching was the first or not. Turned out it was. I fastforwarded through this a lot and I probably shouldn't have but David Schwimmer's character was such a fucking ass I couldn't stand him. I kept hoping he'd die. I really hope he wasn't based on a real person.

I liked a lot of the actors. The guy from Boomtown who's now on Medical Investigations is in it (I'm too lazy to look up his name). I watched part of Medical Investigations or whatever it's called and... Boomtown got cancelled and THAT is made! There is no justice. I hated what I saw, it was predictable and the dialouge was stupid. His talents are wasted.

I need to watch the SGs again before I have a comment. I realized that I don't know the show as well as I should because I've either missed parts or seen it all out of order. So I'm reorg-ing my Netflix queue again.

Tomorrow I have The Thin Man to watch. Then they all go back.

There was flurry of activity and panic in the office when someone said that Gov Bush was going to ration gas to 5 gallons per person.

This is FALSE!

I'm not sure how far it has spread but the government isn't enforcing a ration. Some gas stations that are rationing.

I really really hope that Ivan doesn't hit here because I can't imagine what it will do to the state.

It's a jam packed tv night and I don't think I have enough tapes.

World cup hockey, FSU v Miami, and SG1 & Atlantis.

I think they all overlap at some point, I'll have to check the schedule. So it's tape hockey to watch later and tape the SGs as usual, except the second run.

Last night I went looking to see the SG episode from three weeks ago but I can't find that tape. Lots of Hockey and earlier seasons of SG but not what I want.

This weekend maybe I'll start labelling my tapes.

I went tody and got this week's and last week's comics. I think I got last weeks, I have to double check.

I'm not reading War Games anymore until it comes out in trade. I can't afford it. But I got:

I'm pretty sure that's it. My over all reaction was SQUEEE!!!!!

Still not here.

Lost power around 11:30 last night. JUST got it back. I'm going to take a shower as soon as I finsih this. Without power we don't have running water. I don't think the power will last...it's probably up until the next tree falls down.

It's been raining since last night...steadily since about 10. Lots of places are flooding and in the coastal area where it might come in major roads have been closed. I didn't have to go to work today because it's Labor Day but I don't know about tomorrow.

But we're okay. There's no damage to us so far. There was a tree leaning but dad went out and chopped it down...

Cars have been coming and going down the main road we live off of, even though everyone is supposed to stay inside. There are lots of trees on either side of the street and ... it's just stupid to be out.

The power flickered so I'm going to get off line.

We may not lose power for a while but I really don't want to be online when/if it goes.

I was reading through various rec sites last night (and reading various stories) and it hit me.

Some het. Also odd ball pairings. Like I don't want to read Thatcher/Fraser. Or well Thatcher and anyone. Although Frannie getting some would be good to read.

I got stumped on what het pairings I'd like to read...because...well...I don't have any het pairings that I really like. And not just het, really hot sexy het stories.

Frannie/Turnbull. Or if anyone knows any really good Frannie/Ray K (I'm not sure that really exists).
