My stomach feels icky. Has most of the weekend, I think it's an adjustment to the no meat thing.  Of course right now it's because I ate too much mac 'n cheese.   Publix had a sale on Boca products so I bought some boca crumbles and some italian sausage things.  I had some of the crumbles in spaghetti, but not a lot and with other stuff mixed in and it was fine. The sausag things weren't.   So far I've hated the texture of every fake meat thing/veggie burgers I've tried EXCEPT the riblets (by Morningstar or Gardenburger, can't remember) but didn't like those because they were too salty. Which is fine really.

Told Dad last night about being a vegetarian and his first question was "How do you get protien?" then he asked "what do you eat?"  I ran through a list of stuff.  I was actually going to cook tonight but lost track of time.  This Saturday we're going to celebrate Grandma E's birthday with hamburgers and hot dogs, but I don't know what I'll take instead.

askye, it will probably take your stomach a little while to adjust to digesting the new diet, but CONGRATULATIONS! (If I could only get my DH to commit to meatless!)

Do you have a Trader Joes? They sell the veggie burgers I like there, Dr. Praeger's, which also have the benefit of being something meatless that my DH will eat, and the good Dr. is adding gluten free things, which helps if my sister or nephew is present. http://www.drpraegers.com/

The other fake meat I like is Veat -- although I like it in it's smaller forms much better than the larger ones, so I usually get the Bites and put them in spaghetti sauce, or use them in some kind of stir-fry. www.veat.com

Unfortunatly there is no Trader Joes here. I haven't tried Veat, but I have seen it in the store. The taste is okay for some of the things, but the texture is weird and I'm super picky about textures. However, I just microwaved the sausage thing last night and I'm going to try it again when I can fry and see if it comes out better.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Yeah, the crumbles are okay because they're usually in something, not by themselves. The one meat-ish thing I'd recommend is the Morningstar mini corndogs. They kind of rock. Otherwise, IME, meat substitutes are maybe not the way to go. For the barbeque, for instance, Morningstar also makes a spicy blackbean burger that is excellent, and much more satisfying than something that's trying to be meat and falling short. There are lots of other variations out there too, you should be able to find some you like

It's like carob, you know? It would be fine on its own if people didn't keep pretending it tastes just like chocolate.

I've had Morningstar corn dogs before and they were good. I did try some veggie burgers but the texture was weird, but that may have been because I didn't fry them. As long as stuff is on sale I'll keep trying it.
